Epitaph: Hubbell (Bubbles) Labrador

Epitaph

Hubbell (Bubbles) Labrador was born December 21, 1997. I first met her on the evening of February 11, 2000 and we graduated from Guiding Eyes on February 26, 2000.

Her pet name was Bubbles --- phonetically close to Hubbell --- and more in sync with her personality. She worked as a guide-dog for 11 years and 2 months before going to sleep peacefully on April 11, 2011.

During her career, Bubbles worked at IBM Research and Google Research. She travelled around the world to work on a variety of Web standards and participated actively in the W3C's XForms WG, Voice Browser WG, Multimodal Interaction WG, and Technical Architecture Group (TAG). After joining Google, she also participated in numerous Advisory Committee meetings.

She augmented her travels around the world with visits to many IBM offices around the world. Her Noogler sign declared her profession as path planning and obstacle avoidance --- she fulfilled this role emminently through her career. In addition, Bubbles was also the mascot for Emacspeak --- The Complete Audio Desktop; in addition, she played the vital role of Press/Analyst contact for just over 11 years.

You can read our tribute to her on our blog.
